Lumley has provided them with plenty of material to work with, as there are currently 18 books in the Necroscope series. I have now recently got them all on audio books and I am making my way through. Lumley does a commendable job of bringing readers up to speed, but his storyline summaries aren't a proper substitute for reading the series from the beginning. I read them all many years ago, first I started with the first necroscope and once finished, I read them all in order. I highly recommend this book, but I would NOT make it the first book that you read in the Necroscope epic. I rank it close behind my favorite, Book 3: The Source. It is one of the best books in the series. ![]() I haven't listened to the entire audio version yet, as it was just released yesterday, but I remember the print copy vividly. He creates unique, terrifying new Lords but each has a varying amount of humanity that helps them from becoming boring, robotic vampires. Lumley is put through his writing paces! His rich descriptions of the stark, horrid, fascinating world and the Wamphyri aeries are outstanding here. This being the first Necroscope that takes place (almost?) entirely in the world beyond the gate (Starside/Sunside) Mr. ![]()
